PHUKET, Thailand – Police in Phuket are investigating the unexplained death of an American tourist found in a Patong hotel room on 7 September, after the man had not been seen for approximately five days and had missed his scheduled checkout by one day. The deceased, later identified by authorities as J. D. G., was discovered by hotel staff who entered the room using a spare key after finding the door locked from the inside.

Patong Police received the report at 1.50pm from the local radio centre, which stated that the guest had failed to vacate his room at a hotel in the Kathu district. Police Lieutenant Colonel Wichit Nokkaew, the investigating officer at Patong Police Station, informed station chief Police Colonel Krokrit Khankhruea before proceeding to the scene. Upon entering the room, officers found the American tourist lying dead on the floor in front of the television.

An initial examination of the body revealed no visible wounds, and officers reported no signs of a struggle within the room, nor any indication that belongings had been searched or disturbed. The hotel confirmed that the guest had booked the room from 1 September until 6 September, and a housekeeper last saw him at approximately noon on 2 September, standing outside his room. The fact that he had not been seen for days and had missed his checkout date prompted staff to raise the alarm.

Police have not confirmed a cause of death and stated that they are conducting a detailed investigation, including a review of closed-circuit television footage from the hotel, before taking further action.
